Pallet, shelving, cantilever, flow and mobile racking solve different tasks. Upright and beam counts alone do not define capacity; configuration, anchoring, bracing, load notices and the floor form one system.
What actually changes the choice?
Load: pallet, tote, long material or carton, mass and support; geometry: height, bay width, frame depth, levels and clearances; capacity: level, beam-pair and bay loads for the exact build; building: floor, anchors, joints, services, fire strategy and egress; handling: truck type, Ast, guards, mesh, stops and picking method
Comparison becomes meaningful only after the load unit, flow profile and interfaces are defined. The rated throughput of one module is not the throughput of the complete installation.
How should a used item be checked?
Break a used system down into frames, beams, bracing, feet, anchors, locking pins and protection. Match markings to drawings and load notices. Look for permanent upright or beam deformation, cracked welds, missing braces or locks, corrosion and enlarged holes. Relocation to another layout or floor requires a new design check, not reassembly by eye.
What information should the seller provide?
Request maker and system, year, as-built drawing, calculations or confirmed ratings, load notices, assembly manual, inspection reports and repair history. Require counts and profiles for every component, anchoring method, protection condition and the party responsible for checking the new layout and floor.
