How to choose a hay tedder?

A tedder spreads and aerates mown material; it does not make the final windrow. Check whether its width and rotor layout suit the mower and field area.

Details to compare

Width and rotors: working width, rotor number and diameter and overlap between passes. Tines: shape, length, mounting, loss protection and parts availability.

Adjustment: spreading angle, height, border function and ground contouring. Tractor: power, PTO, three-point hitch or drawbar, hydraulics and machine weight.

Transport: folding sequence, height and width, wheels, locks and lighting.

Inspecting a used tedder

Check tines, arms, hubs, gearboxes, clutches, shafts, universal joints, wheels, pins and folding cylinders.
All rotors should run evenly without knocks or excessive vibration. Crop condition and weather affect drying; no machine guarantees one drying time.
