Compare axles, differentials and final drives by data plate, ratio and build specification. Mounting compatibility is not enough when gears or brakes differ.

How should listings be compared?
A drive axle is a configuration of housing, differential, half-shafts, final drives, hubs, brakes and input flange. The same base model may be built to a different OEM specification. Even a small ratio mismatch between driven axles in a 4×4 vehicle creates driveline wind-up and accelerated wear.
How can compatibility be confirmed?
The tag should provide model, specification number, assembly number, serial number and ratio. Compare mounting points, overall width, input side and flange, wheel studs, differential lock and brake type. For a single final drive, verify the mounting side, tooth counts and the mating sun gear or half-shaft.
What should be compared before buying?
A remanufactured axle should have measured backlash, gear contact pattern, bearing preload and leak-test results. The record must name the bearings, seals and gears fitted. Painting the housing does not prove correct differential setup or sound splines.
How should a used or remanufactured part be assessed?
On a used unit, inspect oil and drain-plug debris, leaks at half-shafts and pinion, hub play, casing cracks and noise while turning. Unequal tyres on the donor machine can indicate driveline stress. Ask whether differential locks and wet brakes operated correctly before removal.
What information should the seller provide?
Ask for a clear tag photograph, ratio, donor machine and serial number, hours, mounting measurements and exact scope of supply. Confirm whether half-shafts, hubs, brakes, sensors, pipes and flanges are included. For a rebuildable core, establish completeness and the absence of cracks.
