How to choose irrigation equipment

First decide whether you need a complete machine or a component for an existing system. Flow, pressure, field geometry and connections must work as one hydraulic system.

Choose the relevant machine category

Information to gather

Field and crop: area, shape, slope, obstacles, crop spacing and required clearance. Water source: available flow, water level and quality, and withdrawal limits.

Hydraulics: pressure required at the outlet, pipe losses, diameters, filtration and protection. Operation: tractor, power supply, transport, labour and frequency of repositioning.

Checking used equipment

Request the make, model, serial number, year, exact configuration, manual and repair history.
Test at the specified flow and pressure. Check leaks, drives, wiring, safety devices and completeness.

One component rating does not prove whole-system performance; obtain a hydraulic design when the operating point is uncertain.
