How should Pickups listings be compared?
A pickup combines a passenger cab with an open bed and often off-road drive. It does not replace a dropside truck when a large platform is needed, or a van when cargo requires a high enclosed space.
What actually changes the choice?
Compare bed length, width between wheel arches and payload with the actual load. Single or double cab, hardtop, drawer systems and towbar all add mass. Trailer work also depends on rated towing weight, vertical hitch load and brake requirements.
For unpaved work, check four-wheel drive, low range, differential locks, clearance, approach angles and tyres. Oversized wheels or suspension lifts can alter handling and documentation. On-road work may value payload, fuel use, noise and cargo security more.
How should a used vehicle be checked?
Inspect the frame underside, cab and bed mountings, corrosion, towing marks and off-road impacts. Test all-wheel drive, low range, locks, clutch or automatic gearbox, brakes and uneven tyre wear. Check bed, tailgate, hardtop, towbar and trailer electrics.
What information should the seller provide?
Request unladen mass, bed payload, towing and hitch-load ratings, cab and driveline version. Obtain four-wheel-drive and gearbox service history, towbar data, suspension modifications and information about previous towing and off-road use.
