How to select a tower crane for a project

Start with the lifting plan and site constraints. Maximum capacity does not show what the crane can lift at the jib tip or in the intended tower configuration.

Parameters to compare

Top-slewing, bottom-slewing or self-erecting design and the erection and dismantling method.
Jib length, capacity at the required radius, tip load and hook height in the proposed tower configuration.
Base or foundation, tower sections, building ties, ballast, power supply and transport requirements.

Completeness of a used system

Verify the numbers and quantities of tower and jib sections, ballast, ropes, trolley, hook, electrical cabinet, cab and remote control.
Request the manual, configuration diagrams, maintenance records, inspection documents and the history of structural repairs.
Inspect welds, pins and bolts, ropes, sheaves, trolley travel, slewing and hoisting mechanisms and limit devices.
