How to choose an irrigation sprinkler

Connection size alone is not enough. Flow, operating pressure, nozzle, throw and trajectory must match the pump, pipes, spacing and crop.

What to compare

Performance: flow and radius table for the exact nozzle at the stated pressure. Rotation: full-circle or adjustable sector, rotation speed and reversing mechanism.

Stream: trajectory angle, droplet characteristics and mounting height for the application. Connection: thread or flange, size, sealing, filtration and any required pressure regulator.

Inspecting a used sprinkler

Check model and nozzle markings, bearing play, drive action, springs, stops, corrosion and body cracks.
Test at the specified pressure for sticking, leakage and irregular rotation. A worn nozzle can change flow, so measurement or replacement may be necessary.
