Street washers: how should listings be compared?
A sprinkler mainly distributes water, suppresses dust and rinses a surface, while a high-pressure washer targets more strongly bonded contamination. Some listings combine both functions, so the product name alone does not establish what the unit can actually do.
Match the equipment to the job first
Define route width, surface, water source and the required finish. Routine watering needs an even output over a wide bar, whereas spot cleaning depends on pressure, flow, a lance or hose reel. Access to a hydrant or filling station must be included in the operating plan.
What really affects the choice?
Compare tank capacity and material, compartment layout, pump output, operating pressure, filtration and sectional nozzle control. A larger tank extends the cycle but adds mass and may reduce payload, manoeuvrability or access to narrow streets.
For a mounted body, confirm frame and mounting dimensions, pump drive, hydraulic or PTO demand, in-cab controls and permitted axle loads. Assess dry-running and frost protection, the ability to drain lines, and access to the filters and pump for routine service.
How should a used item be checked?
Fill the system and test pressure under load, nozzle pattern, valves, hose reel and controls. Look for leaks, repaired tank walls, frame corrosion, pump wear and deposits in filters. A short dry demonstration does not establish the condition of a water system.
What information should the seller provide?
Ask for net capacity, tank material and compartments, pump model, flow and pressure, spray-bar width, nozzle set, drive method, empty and laden mass and body documentation. Confirm which hoses, lances and mounting components are included in the advertised price.
