What separation does your seed lot need?
This category concerns seed cleaning and grading machinery, not distribution heads inside a seeder. Tell the seller the crop, lot size and problem: foreign material, dust or uneven seed size. Screening, air separation and density separation use different material properties; one system does not automatically remove every contaminant.
Questions to resolve before buying
Separation method: which fraction becomes the product and which is rejected; screens and adjustments available for your crop. Throughput: performance for the actual lot and required cleaning standard. A pre-cleaning rate may not apply when preparing seed for sowing.
Scope of supply: feeding, fraction outlets, fan, dust extraction, ducting and controls; power supply and installation space. Changing lots: access for emptying and cleaning to limit carry-over between crops or varieties.
Assessing a used seed cleaner
Inspect the screens, seals, drives and material-handling parts appropriate to the model. Ask about a trial using a representative lot and compare the input, cleaned product and rejected fractions. A clean appearance alone does not establish seed germination or health.
For cleaning grain before storage, also compare grain cleaners. The applications can overlap: one machine may process both commodity grain and seed, but the required result and equipment must be specified separately. For placing seed in the field, see seeders.
