How should Hydraulic pumps listings be compared?

Gear, vane and piston pumps are not interchangeable merely because they fit the same space. A circuit may require specific control, case drain, priority function or a multi-section pump.

What actually changes the choice?

  • Type and output: design, cm³/rev, flow at speed and pressure; drive: rotation, shaft, spline, flange and speed; ports: threads, sizes and suction, pressure and drain positions; control: fixed/variable displacement, regulator and signals; oil: type, viscosity, filtration and permissible temperature
  • Part number and machine data take priority over visual similarity. Versions may differ in dimensions, connection, direction, material or calibration despite sharing a trade name.

How should a used item be checked?

Do not assess a pump merely by turning its shaft. Request a bench curve for flow and pressure with oil temperature and, where relevant, case-drain flow. Inspect noise, debris in ports, shaft damage, cracks, cavitation evidence and flange face. Before fitting, identify the previous pump failure and clean the circuit.

What information should the seller provide?

Provide machine model and serial, old-pump number, circuit diagram and photographs of shaft, flange and ports. Request displacement, rotation, speed and pressure range, regulator settings, bench report, remanufacturing scope, start-up requirements, capped-port cleanliness and warranty.
