How to choose a feed mixer?

Decide between stationary, trailed and self-propelled equipment. This category is for mixing; a transport-only feed wagon has a different primary task.

Key comparison points

Ingredients: material types, bales, loading order and batch limits stated in the manual. Tub: gross and usable volume, one or more vertical or horizontal augers, knives and counter-knives.

Drive: PTO, electric or self-propelled system, power, gearboxes, starting and overload protection. Weighing: load cells, terminal, recipes, groups, control accuracy and data functions.

Discharge: doors, belt or chain, direction, height and connection to a wagon or robot.

Used-mixer inspection

  • Check tub and floor thickness, augers, knives, counter-knives, gearboxes, bearings, PTO or motors, load cells, hydraulics and conveyors.
  • Test with a representative load for dead zones, unusual noise, overload, unstable weighing and residual material. Never enter the tub without energy-isolation procedures.
