How do you choose a concrete mixer truck?

Establish whether the listing is for a complete vehicle, a mixer body only or a mixer semitrailer. The match between drum, subframe, drive and chassis matters as much as capacity.

Specifications worth comparing

  • Nominal filling: compacted mixed-concrete volume stated for the exact model; do not confuse it with geometric drum capacity or water capacity.
  • Chassis and weights: axle arrangement and wheelbase, mixer body weight, permitted axle loads and the usable payload of the complete vehicle.
  • Drum: material and condition of the shell and spirals, drum-speed range, charging opening and protective devices.
  • Drive: chassis PTO, separate engine or electric drum drive, plus the condition of the hydraulic pump, motor and gearbox.
  • Discharge and cleaning: chutes and extensions, controls, water tank and hoses, ladder and platform, and any conveyor system.

Inspecting a used unit

  • Inspect the drum and spirals internally for thinning, cracks, repairs and hardened concrete. Check the subframe, mounts, rollers, bearings, gearbox and hydraulic leaks.
  • Run the drum in both directions and observe noise, vibration, speed control and emergency controls. For a complete truck, arrange a separate inspection of the chassis, brakes and road documents.
