A line is a process, not a collection of machine photos
Start with species, log diameters and lengths, sweep and the incoming sort. Then define products—cants, boards, beams or other sections—and planned shifts. Any capacity figure needs a basis: input size and quality, cutting pattern, crew, shift time and the process stages included.
Break the offer into modules
Log yard and intake: decks, unscramblers, turning, centring, debarking, metal detection and scanning where fitted.
Primary and secondary sawing: headrig, canting or profiling, edging, multirip and material separation. Standalone frame saws have their own category.
Product handling: conveyors, transfers, sorting and stacking, plus extraction of sawdust, chips and offcuts.
Controls: cabinets, operator stations, sensors, scanners, software, licences, program backups and interfaces between modules.
Infrastructure: connected electrical load, compressed air, hydraulics, extraction, foundations, building height, transport routes and service clearances.
Buying a used line: evidence and trial
Request an asset list with manufacturer, model and serial number for every machine and a drawing of the current layout. Electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams, manuals or declarations, control-change history and program backups form part of the line's value. Establish what stays in the seller's building: cabling, trays, extraction ducts, steelwork, platforms and foundations are often not self-evidently included.
A trial should run an agreed portion of the process on documented feedstock. Record product, rate, stoppages and crew rather than accepting one headline capacity. Before pricing, include labelled dismantling, loading, oversized transport, foundation design, alignment, control integration, commissioning and acceptance after relocation.
