Identify the harrow design first
“Harrow” does not describe a single working mechanism. Tines pulled through the soil, rotating discs and powered rotors require different checks. Ask what the offered configuration is intended for: seedbed finishing, residue work or another operation.
Tine harrows: compare tine type and layout, adjustment options and section suspension. Check that tines are complete and wear is reasonably consistent. Disc harrows: establish disc diameter, profile, spacing and suspension type. Close-up pictures and measurements of worn discs are more informative than the catalog diameter of a new part.
Power harrows: check PTO requirements, gearbox, driveline protection and tine type. PTO speed and rotor speed are not the same specification. Depth control: identify what maintains working depth and levels the surface. Rollers, wheels or other finishing sections must be included in both the stated weight and the scope of supply.
Match the inspection to the machine
On a disc harrow, examine hubs, bearings, mounts and disc damage. A power harrow also needs attention to its gearbox and seals. For any design, inspect the frame and folding joints; on powered equipment, check guard completeness. Request part identifiers for items likely to need replacement.
A disc harrow may work after harvest and before seeding; the category name does not rule out either use. If your main task is handling crop residues, also compare stubble tillage equipment.
