Municipal equipment: how should listings be compared?
Municipal equipment covers very different jobs: sweeping and washing surfaces, winter maintenance, sewer and waste work, grounds care and year-round implement carriers. Prices become comparable only after each listing is assigned to the right equipment class.
Match the equipment to the job first
Start with the required result and the place of work. Daily sweeping in a city centre, clearing snow from roads, mowing parks and cleaning sewers call for different machines. This hub helps select the route; model-level specifications and inspection points belong to the relevant subcategory.
For a complete machine, assess the carrier, working system and power source as one configuration. Check transport dimensions, permissible mass, manoeuvrability, drive, hydraulics, mounting points and parts support. Equipment visible in photographs may not be included in the asking price.
For a year-round fleet, quick implement changes, coupling compatibility, lift capacity and axle loads with the implement fitted matter. For a dedicated machine, focus on the output of its process, tank or hopper capacity, setup time and the quality achieved on the intended surface.
How should a used item be checked?
Inspect used equipment from a cold start and, where safe, during a working demonstration with the correct implement. Look for leaks, corrosion, play, tyre wear, electrical and hydraulic faults, working-system damage and controller warnings. Recorded hours should be consistent with service records and component wear.
What information should the seller provide?
Ask for the model, year, serial number or VIN, hours and mileage, drive configuration, exact list of included implements, approval documents and repair history. If the purchase must meet a tender or defined duty, send the seller a requirement sheet and obtain a written answer for every material point.
