How do you select an impact crusher?
In a typical horizontal-shaft impact crusher, a rotor with blow bars accelerates material against impact aprons. A vertical-shaft impactor has a different design and role, so confirm whether a listing is HSI or VSI before comparing machines.
Operating data
Feed opening, largest permitted feed size, required reduction ratio and target product size.
Rotor diameter and width, number and type of blow bars or other wear parts, and the adjustment range of impact aprons.
Material type, hardness and abrasiveness, reinforcement steel, moisture and capacity measured with comparable feed.
Plant configuration
Feeder and pre-screen, overband magnet for steel separation, conveyors and dust-suppression equipment.
Final screen and oversize return if the crusher is to operate in a closed circuit.
Drive system, setting adjustment, overload protection, cover-lifting system and access for changing wear parts.
Assessing a used machine
Inspect the blow bars, impact aprons and liners, and ask for their material grade and remaining section. Check the rotor, shaft, bearings, chamber, welds, hydraulics and conveyors. Uneven wear, vibration or evidence of rotor repair requires closer technical assessment.
