How should Barcode scanners listings be compared?
Standard-range handheld, extended-range, wearable and fixed scanners serve different processes. “Reads barcodes” does not say whether a device handles a top-rack label, 2D code, screen, direct part mark or integration with a terminal or line.
What actually changes the choice?
Symbology: required 1D/2D, density, size, contrast, damage and medium; optics: minimum and maximum range, field of view, aimer and light; connectivity: USB, RS-232, Bluetooth, cradle, HID/SPP or industrial Ethernet; environment: drops, sealing, cold store, dust, gloves and noise; management: programming, firmware, SDK, remote diagnostics and WMS compatibility
Comparison becomes meaningful only after the load unit, flow profile and interfaces are defined. The rated throughput of one module is not the throughput of the complete installation.
How should a used item be checked?
Prepare representative labels: the smallest code, a damaged code, one under film, one on a screen and the furthest position. Test first-pass reads at real angles and lighting, not only a clean close label. For cordless equipment check battery, cradle contacts and latches, connection retention and roaming. Verify that the unit can be reset, programmed and legally updated.
What information should the seller provide?
State code types, module dimensions, label material, distance range, lighting, temperature, interface and application. Request the complete variant and scan-engine number, licences, firmware, cables, power supplies, cradles, batteries, configuration utility, window condition and a test report using supplied labels.
