How should Trucks listings be compared?
This category contains complete trucks with different bodies. A tractor unit works with a semi-trailer, while loader-crane, hooklift, reefer, box, tipper and tanker trucks perform separate duties and require different checks.
Calculate typical load mass and dimensions, trip frequency, urban, motorway and off-road shares, and loading method. These inputs determine gross weight, axle layout, wheelbase, drive, gearing, cab and body without paying for a configuration the operation will not use.
Payload follows from the completed vehicle’s mass, so a crane, tail lift, refrigeration unit, tank or reinforced frame reduces the allowance for goods. Check axle loads, overall height, manoeuvrability, service support and body-to-chassis compatibility. Model literature cannot replace weighing the actual vehicle.
How should a used vehicle be checked?
Verify VIN, mileage, body operating hours and service records. During a road test check cold start, warnings, transmission, retarder, braking, steering and temperatures. Inspect frame, suspension, axles, tyres, overload evidence and body mounting points, then operate every body function in line with the manual.
What information should the seller provide?
Request completed unladen weight, axle limits, dimensions, wheelbase, final-drive data, tachograph and service history, plus all repair records. For the body, obtain maker, serial number, installation documents, inspections and a precise list of included equipment.
