Road rollers are road machines used for compacting soil, sub-base, and road surfaces. Their task is to create the appropriate degree of compaction to ensure the durability, load-bearing capacity, and stability of the road. Road rollers can be divided into several types, depending on their construction and method of operation.
Single drum rollers - have one working drum that can compact a wide road strip in one pass. They are used for compacting sub-base, soil materials, and also for rolling the first layers of asphalt.
Tandem rollers - have two working drums that simultaneously roll the surface. They are used for rolling thicker asphalt layers and also for compacting concrete.
Three-wheel rollers - have three working drums arranged in a triangle. This allows them to roll a large area in one pass. They are used for rolling large areas, such as airports, ports, and construction sites.
Pneumatic rollers - have a working drum and compacting fingers. They are used for compacting soil and preparing sub-base.
Rubber-tired rollers - have a rubber drum that allows for precise compaction of asphalt without damaging its surface.
Important parameters to consider when choosing road rollers are: machine weight, working drum width, working speed, number and pressure of fingers (in the case of pneumatic rollers), and type of working drum (rubber or metal). Depending on the needs, it is also worth paying attention to additional functions, such as automatic road leveling or telemetry systems that allow remote monitoring of machine operation.
