What should you compare on a motor grader?
Define the width to be graded, required gradients and room for maneuvering. Moldboard length is not the effective working width at every blade angle. Compare the actual machine configuration, not just the model designation.
Moldboard and circle: ask about dimensions, rotation, side shift and tilt ranges, and cutting-edge condition.
Drive and maneuverability: establish which axles are driven, check frame articulation and confirm front-axle equipment. Match the configuration to the terrain and working space.
Grade control: distinguish a machine prepared for a system from one supplied with a complete working installation. Ask which sensors, receivers and controls are included in the price.
Weight and transport: check dimensions with the fitted attachments, including a ripper if it forms part of the offer.
Assessing a used grader
Request the serial number, operating hours and service and repair records. Have play in the circle, moldboard guides, articulation joint and steering assessed. Ask about leaks, tire condition and previous structural repairs. Functional demonstrations should follow the machine manual; a video of the grader traveling does not establish blade accuracy.
When selling, specify the drive layout, moldboard dimensions, grade-control equipment and known faults. Do not list catalog options as though they were fitted to the machine.
