Which format fits the job?
A small compression sprayer may suit short spot treatments. For more plants, compare backpack units with manual or battery pumps. Capacity is not the only factor: filling increases weight, while the harness, pump-lever position and lance length affect handling.
What should you confirm before buying?
Application: use the documentation to confirm that the tank, pump, seals, hose and nozzle are compatible with the intended liquid. The word “sprayer” does not imply resistance to every product. Pressure and output: pumping method, regulator or relief valve, pressure gauge if fitted, and a nozzle suited to the task.
Handling: usable capacity, empty weight, harness, choice of pump-lever side, hose length and filter access. Included items: lance, trigger valve, nozzles, battery and charger for an electric version, spare seals and instructions.
Assessing a used hand sprayer
Check the tank and lid for cracks and the hose, fittings and trigger valve for ageing or leaks. Inspect the pump, filter, lance and nozzle threads. For a battery model, ask about battery age, present run time and replacement availability. Use clean water for a leak test and follow the instructions. Operation must also follow the equipment manufacturer's guidance and the label of the product being applied.
For routine tractor-based field work, compare mounted sprayers and trailed sprayers; a small hand sprayer is not a direct substitute.
