How should Ignition switches listings be compared?
A listing may be the switch, a barrel and keys, or an authorisation module. On newer trucks mechanical rotation is insufficient if the controller expects a code, transponder or communication.
What actually changes the choice?
Functions: OFF, ignition, preheat, start and auxiliary positions; electrical: voltage, current rating, contact diagram and pin designations; connector: type, circuits, keying and loom length; mounting: diameter, thread, bezel, orientation and IP protection; access: key quantity/code, immobiliser and programming
Part number and machine data take priority over visual similarity. Versions may differ in dimensions, connection, direction, material or calibration despite sharing a trade name.
How should a used item be checked?
Check continuity in every position with a meter, then test a used switch under permitted load. Look for heating, voltage drop, loose pins, burnt contacts, cracked housing and failed spring return from START. Confirm lock and transponder operation; bypassing security is not a compatibility test.
What information should the seller provide?
Send truck model/serial, voltage and photographs of the front, rear, plug and markings of the old switch. Request pin and position diagram, contact current, mounting dimensions, key quantity/code, immobiliser/programming information, test result and complete nuts, seals and loom.
