How should Fasteners listings be compared?
Bolts, nuts, washers, rings and pins in load-bearing joints, masts or wheels must not be substituted by diameter alone. A part may carry tension or shear, locate a joint or provide single-use retention.
What actually changes the choice?
Function: structural, locating, pivoting or retaining joint; dimensions: thread, pitch, grip length, plain shank and head; material: grade, alloy, hardness and corrosion resistance; installation: torque, lubrication, washer, locking compound and sequence; identity: OE number, head markings and single-use requirement
Part number and machine data take priority over visual similarity. Versions may differ in dimensions, connection, direction, material or calibration despite sharing a trade name.
How should a used item be checked?
Assess used fasteners in critical joints only when documentation permits reuse. Check stretch, necking, damaged threads, worn shank, fretting, corrosion, over-torque marks and unreadable markings. A prevailing-torque nut, split pin or torque-to-yield bolt may require unconditional replacement.
What information should the seller provide?
Provide assembly number and catalogue position, exact thread, length, grade, coating and quantity. Request OE number, maker and batch, markings, material/conformity certificate, single-use information, required torque and the complete set of washers and retainers.
