How do you choose a site concrete mixer?
This category covers standalone and towable mixers that produce batches on site, not mixer trucks used to transport ready-mix concrete.
What should be compared?
Batch size: check the stated mixing or batch output rather than relying only on total drum volume.
Drum: steel or polyethylene construction, charging opening, blade condition, tipping method and discharge height.
Drive and power: electric, petrol or battery drive, required voltage, electrical supply, starting system and fuel availability.
Mobility: operating mass, wheels, tow bar and towing limits, lifting points and the space needed for safe operation.
Material and workload: concrete or mortar, aggregate size, expected batches per shift and the method used to measure constituents and water.
Inspecting a used mixer
Examine the drum, blades and welds, ring gear and pinion, bearings, belts or gearbox, frame, wheels and tipping mechanism. Hardened material can conceal wear and add substantial mass.
Run the machine unloaded in accordance with the manual. Check noise, drum runout, discharge latch, stop switch, wiring, earthing and the completeness of all guards.
