How should Alternators listings be compared?

The alternator must work with drive speed, belt, battery, charge lamp and truck electronics. A different pulley, bracket clocking or control protocol can prevent correct installation.

What actually changes the choice?

  • Output: voltage, rated current and speed curve; drive: pulley diameter and grooves, rotation and maximum speed; mounting: lugs, bushes, spacing and tensioning; electrical: B+, ground, excitation, regulator and plug; engine: code, OE number and accessory load
  • Part number and machine data take priority over visual similarity. Versions may differ in dimensions, connection, direction, material or calibration despite sharing a trade name.

How should a used item be checked?

A bench report should show loaded voltage and current, regulator action, diode ripple and excitation draw. Check bearings, shaft, pulley, threads, housing cracks and heat evidence. After fitting, measure voltage at alternator and battery; cable loss or a wrong belt can imitate a charging fault.

What information should the seller provide?

Send engine code, voltage, old-alternator number, photographs of mounts, pulley and plug, and accessory demand. Request rated current, output curve and load report, diode/regulator result, remanufacturing scope, pulley type and warranty.
