Match a pivot pin to its exact joint by diameter, length, fit, material, surface treatment, lubrication and retention. Similar shape does not establish load capacity.

How should Pivot pins listings be compared?
Mast, axle, cylinder and steering pins carry different loads and run in different bushes. A grease drilling, groove, flange or retaining method can rule out an apparently similar substitute.
What actually changes the choice?
Position: assembly, joint point and load direction; geometry: diameter, working length, steps, chamfers and grooves; fit: mating bush, tolerances and required clearance; material: grade, hardness, case/chrome treatment and finish; service: greaseways, nipple, seals and retainer
Part number and machine data take priority over visual similarity. Versions may differ in dimensions, connection, direction, material or calibration despite sharing a trade name.
How should a used item be checked?
Clean the pin and measure it in several sections and two directions to find taper and ovality. Look for scoring, pitting, cracks, battered grooves, damaged thread and welding. Measure bush and housing as well; a new pin in an oval bore will not restore the correct clearance.
What information should the seller provide?
Provide machine, assembly number and pin location, plus old-pin, bush and housing measurements. Request a tolerance drawing, material and hardness, coating, lubrication arrangement, retainers, crack-inspection result and whether a matching bush is included.
