Implement carriers and multipurpose vehicles: how should listings be compared?
An implement carrier is bought as a platform for a planned work programme, not merely as a vehicle. The same engine power may support very different equipment depending on hydraulic flow, mechanical PTO, mounting points, mass and cooling under continuous load.
Match the equipment to the job first
Build a yearly duty schedule covering sweeping, washing, mowing, snow clearance, spreading, transport or watering. Assign a specific implement to every job and confirm that the carrier handles it within lift capacity, axle loads, access width and permitted combined mass.
What really affects the choice?
Compare front, rear and additional mounting spaces, coupling categories, lift capacity, movement and changeover time. Check hydraulic circuit count, flow and pressure, free return, couplings, PTO, voltage and control communication with the implement.
For urban work, width, height, turning circle, rear-wheel path, all-wheel drive, locks and visibility of the implement matter. Assess platform payload, trailer rating, road speed, cab and the ability to service the carrier without removing the body.
How should a used item be checked?
Demonstrate with the heaviest implement and the one with the highest continuous power demand. Check lifting, stability, oil temperature, sustained flow, quick couplers, PTO, driving and braking. Inspect articulation or steering, frame, mounts, tyres, leaks and wiring.
What information should the seller provide?
Ask for serial number or VIN, year, hours, masses and axle loads, hydraulic performance curve, PTO data, coupling specification, tyres, road approval and approved implement list. Included tools should have adapters, hoses, controllers, stands and documents identified.
