Street sweepers: how should listings be compared?

A sweeper should be matched to the debris and route, not selected only by its quoted sweeping width. A compact articulated machine may suit narrow passages, while a truck-mounted sweeper can be better for long routes and larger volumes of collected material.

Match the equipment to the job first

Decide whether mechanical sweeping, vacuum sweeping or a combined brush-and-suction system is required. Fine dust, wet leaves, sand and heavier debris place different demands on the suction duct, filtration and hopper. Access to discharge and water refill points also affects the working cycle.

What really affects the choice?

Compare brush number and position, pressure adjustment, working width, suction head, fan, filtration and dust-suppression sprays. Hopper volume must be considered with chassis payload and actual emptying time rather than treated as a stand-alone productivity figure.

For urban routes, turning circle, vehicle width and height, visibility of the brushes, kerb performance, noise and a wander hose can be decisive. For an electric sweeper, assess battery capacity and health, charger compatibility, charging time and usable operating range.

How should a used item be checked?

A demonstration should include a cold start, every brush function, water sprays, suction and hopper lifting. Inspect brush wear, arm play, cracked hoses, suction ducts, rear-door seal, fan, water pump and corrosion caused by collected material.

What information should the seller provide?

Request the serial and chassis details, hours, mileage, brush configuration, tank and hopper capacities, suction-system documentation and replacement history for wear parts. A video showing dry and wet debris being collected is more useful than photographs of a freshly washed machine.
