A logging winch, timber grapple and harvester head solve different tasks. Start with carrier, weight, interface, hydraulics and controls—not the attachment name alone.

How should a forestry attachment be matched to its carrier?

An attachment is useful only as part of a defined combination. A grapple may need a different pin or rotator, a harvester head may exceed the boom’s capacity, and a winch may not match the tractor linkage and power. Missing interface data means an adaptation and integration risk.

What should actually be compared?

  • Logging winches: match pulling force, rope, drum count, control, butt plate, linkage category and power demand to the tractor and extraction method.
  • Timber grapples: compare gripping area and opening with the assortment, attachment weight and rating, jaw geometry, pin/rotator interface, pressure and flow.
  • Harvester heads: verify weight with rotator and link, stem range, saw, feed rollers and knives, feed motors, flow, pressure, wiring and measuring system.
  • Combination load case: the boom load chart must include attachment, rotator and link mass at the required reach. Pump delivery, return line, filtration and cooling must satisfy the tool.

How should a used listing be checked?

Identify the plate and serial number first, then inspect pin and bearing play, frame cracks, cylinders, hoses, valve block, connectors and overload evidence. On a head, inspect rollers, knives, saw, guides and measuring wheel; on a grapple, closing symmetry and jaw tips; on a winch, drum, rope, guide, clutch and brake. Test only on a compatible carrier and within the operating instructions.

Information to request from the seller

Request model and serial, year, complete configured weight, interface drawing, rotator or pin type, required pressure and flow, electrical/control diagram, approved carriers and rebuild history. The offer should explicitly list hoses, couplings, suspension link, rotator, controller, joysticks and spares when included.
