Start with row spacing, row count and the crop in which the implement will work. Overall machine width is not enough to confirm compatibility. Ask about section adjustment range, outer-tool arrangement and clearance above the crop.

Working sections: check the tools on each section, their suitability for the inter-row space and complete mountings. Different crop growth stages may require different equipment. Ground following: inspect section suspension, support wheels and depth adjustment. Play can make it harder to maintain the intended working path.

Row protection: establish whether shields, discs or other components limiting soil throw onto plants are included. Do not infer their presence from the model name. Guidance: distinguish tractor steering from moving the cultivator relative to the rows. For camera-guided equipment, check camera, side-shift frame, terminal, wiring and hydraulic compatibility.

Inspecting a used inter-row cultivator

Request pictures of shares, parallelogram joints, wheels and frame. Check that the number of complete sections matches the description. If automatic guidance or section lifting is included, request a working demonstration and a list of components needed with your tractor.

Can a camera compensate for a poorly matched implement?

It does not replace correct spacing, tools or section setup. Crop recognition depends on the system and conditions. For full-width soil preparation before seeding, compare field cultivators rather than only inter-row equipment.
