Choosing a bucket with a grab
A grab bucket combines a closed-bottom bucket with a hydraulic upper grab. It differs from a fork with a grab and from an opening multi-purpose bucket. Check whether the particular model is intended for silage, manure or another material; appearance alone does not establish suitability.
Dimensions: compare width, capacity and maximum opening. Establish whether the volume quoted is heaped. Mounting: request the carrier type and coupling dimensions. A loader name in the listing title does not prove that the interface fits.
Hydraulics: check grab controls, required pressure and couplers against the attachment documentation. Weight: allow for both bucket weight and material weight when checking the permitted load of the complete combination.
Assessing a used grab bucket
Request photos of the floor, cutting edge, tines, pivots and mounting points, plus details of cracks and repairs. Have a competent person assess play, cylinders and hoses. Ask about replacement wear parts for the stated model.
