Tell the seller whether the machine will handle manure, compost or another material allowed by its manual. Material consistency and density affect the floor conveyor and spreading unit, so body volume alone does not establish the output of the combination.
Details to compare
Body and payload: volume, permitted payload, loading dimensions, extensions, rear gate and load retention for transport. Floor conveyor: number and condition of chains, slats, tensioners, sprockets, gearbox, feed-rate adjustment and reverse.
Spreading unit: vertical or horizontal beaters, a spreading table where fitted, teeth, vanes, guards and whether the assembly is removable. Drive and control: required PTO speed, guarded shaft and overload protection, hydraulics, sensors, terminal and floor-speed regulation.
Running gear: hitch, drawbar, axles, suspension, tyres, brakes, permitted masses and transport dimensions.
Inspecting a used manure spreader
Look for corrosion and repairs in the body, frame and floor. Compare chain tension and examine slats, sprockets, gearbox and hydraulic components. Check beater bearings and inspect teeth and vanes for missing parts, cracks and uneven wear. Ask the seller to demonstrate the empty machine safely and in accordance with its manual; guards should remain in position.
