The Liebherr R 954 hydraulic excavator is powered by a Liebherr diesel engine producing 294 HP (216 kW). It features a 6-cylinder inline configuration with direct fuel injection and turbocharging. This excavator is equipped with a hydraulic circuit consisting of two variable-flow axial piston pumps and a reversible pump for the swing function.
